On Friday, September 4, 2020, the Broward Teachers Union (BTU) and the District met for a negotiating session on House Bill 641, the increase in teachers` salaries and the allocation of referendum funds for the 2020-2021 school year. We are pleased to inform you that the Declarations of Intent have been signed by the Parties for Education Professionals (EPs) and PSE posts. The BTU is in the process of ratifying these agreements and, after ratification, the school board has scheduled a special meeting of the school committee to approve the agreements on Thursday, September 10. This will allow the agreed HB 641 referendums and endowments to be carried out on Friday 18 September in the EP and EP pay cheques, including retroactive payments. #20 lunch hour: All members of the fare unit are expected to have a 30-minute lunch break per day. In the event of an emergency, which requires a member of the negotiation to supervise the students during the duty-free lunch break, the member is given a 30-minute leave period. Release time is also granted in the event of an emergency on campus, which encourages members of the bargaining unit to supervise students during breakfast hours for members of the bargaining unit who do not get a contract for these tasks. At the discretion of the member of the negotiation, the release period may be used on the same day or accumulated later for use. Applications for the use of the release period during the district`s prohibition dates of April 5-9, 2021 and May 3, 2021 to June 11, 2021 are granted, unless they are contrary to the standardized assessment dates established in relation to the responsibilities assigned to the member of the bargaining unit. The release time does not expire until it is exhausted.

All requests for the use of release time must be submitted to the administration 48 hours in advance. The request and authorization/refusal must be made in writing. Note: The following bargaining units are no longer present under the Broward County Board of Commissioners, but are listed for historical reference purposes. The parties did not reach an agreement during this session, but the parties are required to continue negotiations until an interim agreement is reached. The parties will meet again on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, when the BTU will present counter-proposals on the most recent version of the district agreement.
